Welcome to the 2008 golf season

Well, we started this blog with the best of intentions. Unfortunately, it's been a year since we updated. We'll try harder this year, but Summer goes so fast it was snowing before we knew it.

Anyway, 2008 looks to be as exciting as ever at Greenbush Golf Course. And if you haven't played yet, you're in for a few surprises.

A couple of weeks ago we started the first phase of a rather extensive project—fixing the pond on Hold #6. Over the years, the liner in the pond deteriorated beyond repair. Last year we tried fixing the holes by hiring a crew to clue new liner to the old. As you may have noticed, this didn't work.

As the pictures show, we brought in a bulldozer to knock down the berms that surrounded the pond. In the end this creates a smaller, shallower pond that will ultimately be more manageable. We hope to spend the summer fixing the pond so it looks as pleasing as it did before the water began to drain.

Course Conditions

We've taken control of the clover problem that affected many of the fairways earlier this spring. We're going to be making one more application of the fertilizer in the next couple weeks and hope to have the heaviest areas back to normal soon! As a result of the application, you'll notice the fairways are a bit yellow. That yellowing should go away by the end of the week.

This past weekend we aeriated and top-dressed the greens and also removed several tree stumps that remained after we cut down over 200 dead trees last Fall. Removing these stumps has greatly improved the look of the course and also provides room for the new trees that we planted last year.

You'll also notice the fresh look around the Clubhouse as Elfie has busy been painting the railings and wooden fences.

Overall the course looks great and we're excited and hope for a warm and dry Memorial weekend.
